FOR TEACHERS · HOMEWORK GUIDE

Set it once.
Collect the results simply.

Share a MusicClassLab task through Teams or Google Classroom. Students complete it, then return just two things: their mark and their result code.

1. Get your homework link

  1. Open a homework-ready tool in MusicClassLab.
  2. Choose the difficulty, number of questions and any other settings. Select Test/Homework mode.
  3. Click Set homework, then Copy homework link. Keep this link ready for your assignment.

Use one new link per homework task. Students following it receive your chosen settings.

2. Collect just two answers

Create these two required short-answer fields in your school’s form or quiz. State the total available marks in your assignment, and use the same task settings for the class.

FIELD 1 · REQUIRED

Mark

Enter the number of marks earned on your MusicClassLab result screen. For 8/10, enter 8.

8 Example only
FIELD 2 · REQUIRED

Result code

Click Copy code on your result screen and paste the code here.

MCL-ABCDE-FGHJK Example format only

These fields collect the student’s MusicClassLab result. Do not give them a fixed answer key or use the form’s own quiz score as the music mark. Use school sign-in to identify students; if names are not recorded automatically, add a required name field.

MICROSOFT TEAMS

3. Set a Teams quiz

  1. In your class team, open Assignments → Create → New Quiz, then choose New Quiz.
  2. In Microsoft Forms, name the quiz after the task. Add two Text questions: Mark and Result code. Make both required. Keep the mark question short; use a number restriction between 0 and the task’s total marks if available.
  3. Paste the homework link and the student instructions below into the quiz description. Check that school sign-in records students’ names.
  4. Return to Teams, select your quiz, choose the class and due date, then Assign.
  5. After submissions, open the quiz in Forms. In Responses (or View responses), choose Open in Excel. Your two answers appear in separate columns alongside student details.

You can also attach a normal Microsoft Form to a Teams assignment if you only want to collect results.

GOOGLE CLASSROOM

3. Set a Classroom quiz assignment

  1. Open your class, then Classwork → Create → Quiz assignment. Classroom attaches a blank Google Forms quiz.
  2. Open the attached quiz. Name it after the task and remove the sample question. Add two Short answer questions: Mark and Result code. Make both required. For the mark, use Response validation → Number → Between → 0 and the task’s total marks.
  3. Paste your homework link and the student instructions below into the form description. In Settings, collect verified school email addresses where available.
  4. Return to Classroom. Turn Grade importing off: the submitted mark is an answer field, not the Google quiz’s score. Set the due date and Assign.
  5. To collect the class results, open the form’s Responses tab and choose Link to Sheets (the green Sheets icon). Create a spreadsheet or select an existing one.

Student instructions — ready to copy

Replace the placeholder with the homework link you copied from MusicClassLab.

4. Check results and use your spreadsheet

Each submission gives you a row containing the student’s details, mark and code. Sort the Mark column to identify who might need more practice.

  1. Copy a result code from Excel or Google Sheets.
  2. Open Check a Result and paste it in.
  3. Confirm the module, difficulty/settings and score match the homework. The result also shows when it was completed; expand the answers to see where the student struggled.

Marks are entered by students. The code lets you verify the recorded result; scores are not automatically transferred into the Teams or Classroom gradebook. These steps collect results in your school’s own spreadsheet.
