Key Signature Challenge: a quick guide

Your goal

Look at the sharps or flats at the start of the music and work out the key.

Try an example

One sharp, F♯, can mean G major or E minor. Check whether the question asks for a major or minor key before choosing.

Easy to mix up

For a major key with sharps, go one half step above the last sharp. With two or more flats, the second-to-last flat names the major key. One flat is F major.

A tip for your next go

Learn a few signatures first, then add more. Try learning each major key with its relative minor: they share the same key signature.
