Note Name Checker: a quick guide

Your goal

Name a note on the staff, or put a notehead in the right place. Start with a few notes and build up from there.

Try an example

In treble clef, the spaces from bottom to top spell F–A–C–E. The bottom line is E, and the space just above it is F.

Easy to mix up

Look at the clef first! The same line can mean a different note in another clef. Extra lines above or below the staff carry on the same note pattern.

A tip for your next go

Try just spaces or just lines first. When placing a note, check whether the question wants it on, above or below the staff.
