Scale Builder: a quick guide
Your goal
Build a scale by choosing its notes on the keyboard. You will get used to the patterns that make different scales sound different.
Try an example
Try C major: C–D–E–F–G–A–B–C. E–F and B–C are the smallest gaps, called half steps. To make G major, use the same pattern from G: you will need F♯.
Easy to mix up
White keys will not work for every scale. In major and minor scales, follow the letter names in order and check which need sharps or flats.
A tip for your next go
Start from the given note. Fill the gaps in order and listen as your scale takes shape.
